MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS
- The 1666 Hearth Money Rolls for the Barony of Dungannon include Robert Kerr in the townland of Cratley, parish of Ballyclog. Cratley is two miles north of Stewartstown.
- Old age pension records for Dungannon include a claim from Sarah Anne Kerr, aged 70, of Knocknarney, parish of Carnteel, whose father was Graham Reid and whose mother was Margaret (White). The date on this record, 1851, seems very incorrect.
- British Archives record that a Samuel Kerr served in the Royal Irish Constabulary in Kenmare, County Kerry in the 1870s and 1880s. He was a laborer from County Tyrone and enlisted on Aug.1, 1865, at the age of 18 (thus he was born in 1847). He left Kerry in 1882.
HISTORY OF THE PARISH OF DRUMGLASS
This book, written for the parish by E.W. Monteith and published about 1970, contains a number of references to Kerrs.
From the baptismal register: ``15th Nov., 1746. Elizabeth daughter of Mick Ker the gardener, was privately baptized, ye father being abroad and ye mother not able to get gossips.'' [Gossips was an old name for sponsors or god-parents]. Evidently Mick returned safely from abroad for on March 16, 1750, was written: ``Catherine, daughter of Mick Ker the gardener, was privately baptized.''
During the late 18th century the Church of St. Anne had fallen into such disrepair that services had to be held in the town Meeting House. However at meeting of the select vestry on August 12, 1795 over 50 parishioners pledged sufficient funds to allow construction of a new church. The name Kerr is included in this list of parishioners.
An oak table in the main porch of the present Church of St. Anne contains the engraved Roll of Honour of those men and women who served in the World War of 1939-1945. At the head of the tablet are the words ``Pro Patria'' enclosed by a laurel wreath. Included in a list of 114 men are the names of J. Kerr, S.E. Kerr (see chapter 4) and W.G. Kerr.
A list of the Churchwardens for the Moygashel Church Hall includes the name of C.W. Kerr, Churchwarden in 1957 (see Cecil Kerr, chapter 4).
DEPORTATION AND EMIGRATION
Arthur Kerr of County Tyrone, a laborer born in 1774, was tried in 1818 and sentenced to 7 years deportation. He was transported to New South Wales in "Minerva I" in 1819.
CHARLEMONT ESTATE RECORDS
The records for the estate of the Earl of Charlemont for 1849 include the following references to Kerrs. Terence Kerr is listed as holding a lease in the townland of Legilly, parish of Clonfeacle. Benjamin Kerr holds a lease on 8 acres, 3 roods and 25 perches in the townland of Reaskcor, parish of Donaghmore, for an annual rent of 8 pounds and 19 shillings. This lease began on Nov.1, 1832. Francis Kerr holds two leases in Cashill (location unknown), one of over 2 acres and the other of over 3 acres and each for an annual rent of over 2 pounds. These leases began on Nov.1, 1817, and Nov.1, 1823, respectively.
RECORDS OF THE PARISH OF CLONFEACLE
The vestry minutes from the parish of Clonfeacle, 1763-1831, (PRONI T679/43) contain the following references to Kerrs.
- In 1794, Laughlin Kerr is included in a list of cesspayers.
- In 1804 churchwarden John Ryan's parish accounts for 1804 mention payment to Edward Ker for lime.
- In 1819, Rodger Kerr was appointed a parish constable.
- In 1820, the child Bridget Kerr was a ward of the parish and placed with Patrick Fox by the parish committee. For this service Patrick Fox was paid 1 pound, 2 shillings and 9 pence in 1821. Biddy Ker is still with Patrick Fox in June 1822 and is included in a 1823 list of parish children. However in 1823 the vestry ordered Biddy Ker removed from the custody of Patrick Fox and placed with Thomas Goodwin of Benburb.
RECORDS OF THE PARISH OF DONAGHMORE
- A strange story is recorded in the register of the parish of Donaghmore in the year 1800. It seems that a George Kerr received permission to examine the church registry on Friday, Jan.10, 1800. The next day it was discovered that a page had been torn out of the registry and affidavits to this effect are inscribed in the church registry. It is furthermore alleged that the missing page contained the record of the marriage of George Kerr to Margaret Beatty on Dec.29, 1762. Their tone suggests that George refused to accept responsibilty for the missing page. What censure George received is not recorded.
- Robert James Kerr aged 17 of the Parish of Donaghmore was confirmed on Sep.20, 1873.
RECORDS OF THE PARISH OF CLONOE
- Herbert Cecil Kerr (1899-1789) of Oakvale, Dungannon, is buried in the graveyard of St.Michael's, Clonoe.
RECORDS OF THE PARISH OF ARBOE
- Elizabeth and William Kerr of Killycolpy and the Parish of Arboe were confirmed on Aug.5, 1840.
